The Karate club, with the help of 43 members, raised over 8,000 and completed 227 combined kilomtres (Youth: 64 km; Adult: 72 km; third AMT: 91 km) in just 12 hours. Thanks to everyone there will be more young kids taking part in YMCA programs across the GTA. Amazing Work, Team!
Visit our flick page for pictures of the event.
Did you know the YMCA is not just a fitness centre?
The YMCA provides a safe environment for children and youth to learn new skills and build character through a number of programs including the karate program. It trains youth and young adults with employment training, provides newcomer services and literacy, and is the largest Canadian not-for-profit daycare provider. Last summer,116,400 children and youth including 2,160 children with disabilities were registered at YMCA Day and overnight camps.
Did you know that 20% of our karate members in the children’s, youth and adult program receive some sort of financial support to be able to participate in the program?
Because of these reasons, the Adult/Youth karate program will be taking part in the megaton event happening March 1st 2014. There is two ways you can support the Karate program and the YMCA:

    1. You can join the Youth or Karate Adult team by helping us keep an elliptical in continuous use for 12 hours. Please see below for details. OR
    2. You can make a donation to one of the karate team members. A list of participants will be forwarded.

Please see Sempai Shima, Ian, Alan or Remy for more details about the event and how you can help out.
If you’d like to sign up for the youth or adult karate team, please do the following:
    1. Sign up for a time slot

    2. Start training for the event
    3. Raise money by setting up a donation page here:

    •  Adults: participants need to raise $100 in donations
    •  Youth: participants need to raise $50 in donations

    4. On the day of the event, arrive 15 minutes before your designated time ready to workout in your Karate Gi!
    5. Please come a little early and/or stay a little late and support your team on March 1st.
There will be a friendly competition between the youth and adult to see who can cover the longest distance in the span of 12 hours. Our bet is on the adults! Youth, prove us wrong.
